This is such a hard position to be in. Your answer was beautifully written. Accepting that changing people is not your responsibility is a necessary step that will lead you in the right direction. A huge weight of your shoulders, and like Hayes said, it will leave room for beautiful things that make you feel like you. Sending both a hug, thanks for being vulnerable Hayes💕
Oh Hayes, this one hit home. As an only child, I am also the eldest daughter by default, but I really relate to the moral dilemma of wanting to be there for your family but also for yourself. The year I moved back home to "save money" was honestly miserable. I completely understand the kind of "unsafe" feeling you refer to here. It's so hard to break out of it though, isn't it? As always, your capacity for empathy and your ability to articulate that continues to blow me away. Keep doing what you do!! <3
Wow I can relate to that, too. @eldest daughter, pls move out and invest in your sanity!! I am still financially dependent on my parents, but at least I live alone and have my peace! I value nothing (except for my cat) more than the peace of my own home!
This is a beautifully written and deeply sensitive piece.
That was just so beautiful.
Your writing and vulnerability always amaze me. As an eldest daughter, I felt this!!!! Thank you for writing ❤️
